What to Expect

What can we expect?

  • 1st-12th graders will utilize Chromebooks/Laptops at both home and school.
  • PreK and Kindergarten students will utilize district-provided iPads solely in the classroom

Please know that it is an expectation for all students in grades 3-12 to bring their devices with them to school each day.  This is similar to your child having other resources, such as books or calculators, that they are required to bring. It will also be the student's responsibility to ensure that the device comes to school charged and ready to use.  While you still have the flexibility for your child to bring their personal device to school, parents are encouraged to consider using a district-provided device, along with the purchase of an optional $25 device protection plan, to minimize your risk of out-of-pocket expenses due to lost or damaged devices.  (For more information on our device protection plan, please click here).

Information on how to check out a district device will be communicated by campuses after the beginning of school.

Using District-Issued Devices vs. Personal Devices

1

Costs for Damage or Loss

Students will be responsible for the safety and security of their devices. With a personal device from home, repair/replacement costs could be very high. With a school-issued Chromebook, potential costs for repair/replacement are much lower, especially with the purchase of the optional device protection plan.

2

Technical Support

School-issued devices are maintained and serviced by district IT specialists. Personal devices that are brought from home will not be serviced or maintained by district personnel.

3

Program Compatibility

School-issued devices are guaranteed to be compatible with all instructional software programs used in the district. SISD cannot guarantee that all programs will be compatible with personal devices.

4

Safety and Security

Students using district-provided devices will be restricted from downloading unapproved apps/software programs. SISD will not have the ability to restrict students from downloading unapproved and potentially dangerous programs on personal devices.
