Shallowater Intermediate’s Counseling Program is based on The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and the American School Counselor Association Model. The foundation of the program is to provide developmentally appropriate assistance for all students, and at the same time additional assistance to students in need of support. The Comprehensive program is based on four components:
Guidance Curriculum provides lessons to students that facilitates growth, development, and transferable skills in the areas of education, career, personal, and social development. The areas addressed are:
Personal Health and Safety
Responsive Services addresses the immediate needs and personal concerns of students. Although counselors will respond to any student's needs, the following topics have been identified as having a high priority:
Academic success includes tardies, absences, misbehavior, being new to school, school avoidance, and study skills
Individual Planning assists students in monitoring and understanding their own education, carrer, and personal-social developement.
